The LUOSKO Legacy
Every organisation has a history. LUOSKO has a legacy.
LUOSKO did not begin as a rescue. It began with Stuart Harvey, alongside co-founder Andrew “Dru” Johns, and two much-loved dogs who were simply family: Lucca and Oscar. Dru retired his position with LUOSKO in September 2026 and no longer has any involvement; LUOSKO continues under Stuart's leadership.
The dogs built LUOSKO. LUOSKO did not build the dogs.
What started as a family grew into something none of them planned. Each dog who joined brought new lessons and new reasons to understand the breed more deeply. Those lessons shaped a philosophy that could only have grown from lived experience — never from a business plan.
The Founders
Lucca and Oscar were not part of a rescue story at first. They were family. Yet in their own ways, they began teaching the values that would later sit at the heart of LUOSKO: loyalty, humour, patience, understanding and the belief that every dog has something to give.
Oscar deserves his own place in that history. As a Chihuahua × Jack Russell, he was not a German Shepherd, but he helped prove something LUOSKO still believes deeply: character is never defined by breed.
Those first dogs did not create an organisation overnight. They created the foundation from which everything else could grow.
Some dogs change your life without ever knowing it.
Oscar was a much-loved Chihuahua × Jack Russell whose place in the LUOSKO story matters precisely because he was different.
His legacy helps explain why LUOSKO has always looked beyond labels. Breed, size and appearance can never tell the whole story of who a dog is or what they can teach.
The Pack Grows
When Lucca passed away at only four years old, Oscar was left on his own.
Riley — Solophina Asko — joined the family soon after. Not to replace Lucca. That could never happen. But because the family never wanted Oscar to face life alone.
Sometimes healing begins with another dog.
Having experienced that loss, they made a decision: they never wanted Riley to face that same loneliness if something happened again. That decision led to Luna joining the family.
She never knew she'd become the face of LUOSKO.
Then, despite having no intention of growing the family further, they found themselves saying yes again.
Timmy joined the LUOSKO family. He had originally been destined for the American Air Force before an accident at just eight months old left him with a severely deformed jaw. What mattered was not the disability, but the dog himself — another dog deserving of a loving home.

This is the question we're asked more than any other.
LUOSKO was not created by a branding agency.
It was not chosen from a list.
It was not invented around a meeting table.
It grew naturally from the dogs who unknowingly started everything.
It began with three names.
Today, it represents every dog who has become part of LUOSKO.
Every letter tells a story.
A Dog That Changed More Than Our Family
Lexi wasn't part of the original plan.
She was Riley's full sister, born a litter later, and when Rachel from Solophina German Shepherd Dogs asked if we would consider giving her a home, she already knew the kind of life our dogs shared.
At the time, Lexi was struggling. Anxiety had taken hold and she had developed a heartbreaking habit of spinning and biting at her own tail because of what she had experienced in her first home.
She needed patience. She needed understanding. Most of all, she needed a family willing to help her feel safe again.
Lexi became much more than another member of the LUOSKO family.
She quietly confirmed something we hadn't fully realised ourselves. Our family was growing.
Looking back, she wasn't simply another dog. She became one of the reasons LUOSKO continued to evolve.
She arrived needing help. She stayed because she found home.
When Rescue Found Us
Before LUOSKO specialised exclusively in German Shepherd Dogs, the family helped dogs of every breed. Frank the Dachshund became one of those rescue dogs and would eventually be the final non-German Shepherd permanently welcomed into the family. Gary, a European-imported Kangal, joined through Mastin Matters and was chosen for the calm guardian temperament that could help children and visitors understand that giant breeds can also be incredibly gentle.
Some rescue dogs simply never left. Leo, Skye, Kensi, Jenny and Luther all arrived through rescue before becoming permanent members of the LUOSKO family, each helping in their own way with rehabilitation, assessments and building confidence in people through their individual personalities.
Bridgette and Mastin Matters remain long-standing friends of LUOSKO, part of a wider story built through trust, shared values and dogs whose influence reached far beyond their own arrival.
The Next Chapter
The next chapter continues through Abbie, Xeva, Aurora, Maus, Dakota and Luka. Each carries forward what the dogs before them taught.
They are not replacements. They are the continuation of a living story — new personalities, new lessons, new ways to help dogs and people understand one another.

Every dog who has become part of LUOSKO has taught us something. Some taught patience. Some taught confidence. Some taught resilience. Others quietly reminded us that every dog, whatever their background, has something valuable to give.
Living alongside these dogs for decades taught Stuart something simple: different dogs help different dogs, and different people, in their own ways. Today the resident LUOSKO pack is intentionally balanced — not because of a formula, but because experience has shown why that balance matters.
The pack always aims to include one small dog, one extra-large breed and a balanced group of German Shepherds. A small dog can remind nervous or overwhelmed dogs that size is not everything. An extra-large guardian breed can help children and visitors discover that even the biggest dogs can be calm, patient and trustworthy.
The shepherds themselves represent a wide range of personalities and life experiences: male and female, entire and neutered, young and senior. Together they help LUOSKO assess, rehabilitate, educate and support both dogs and people in ways no single dog ever could.
The Story Isn't Over Yet
Every dog you've met on this page helped shape LUOSKO.
Some are still with us. Some now live on only through memories. Each one has left something behind.
