What buyers should expect

Relevant health results for both parents, honest discussion of temperament, an appropriate early environment, the opportunity to meet the mother where appropriate, a realistic explanation of line and drive, a transparent pedigree, no pressure sale, a written agreement, lifelong return responsibility, no colour-based price inflation, no claims that every puppy will be identical, and no promises of perfect health or guaranteed behaviour.

Warning signs

Puppies always immediately available, refusal to show health results, multiple unrelated breeds produced at scale, "rare colour" as the principal selling point, extreme size marketing, no interest in the buyer's home, no return responsibility, puppies leaving too young, pressure to pay quickly, and use of fear or aggression as proof of quality.

Adoption remains an equally valid route.
